LPG Booking Status: Despite the government's efforts to improve LPG cylinder booking and delivery, problems continue to persist. Complaints of delays in cylinder booking and delivery are pouring in from states across the country, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. People from various cities are also expressing their concerns about cylinder booking and delivery on social media.
To improve supply and prevent hoarding, the government established a cylinder booking period for urban and rural areas. This period is 25 days for urban areas and 45 days for rural areas. This means that if you book a cylinder on April 20th, the next booking will be on May 15th in urban areas and June 5th in rural areas. However, companies are now accepting bookings from the date of delivery, not from the previous booking date.
In many cities, cylinders are delivered 7 to 10 days after the booking date. Obviously, if a cylinder is delivered 10 days after the booking date, the next booking will also be delayed by 10 days. This means that in rural areas, the next cylinder booking is taking place after 35 days instead of 25 days, and in urban areas, it takes 55 days instead of 45 days. The government has strict guidelines that bookings should be made within 25 and 45 days, but due to the companies' delays, there is an unnecessary 10-day delay.
Uttar Pradesh: Reports of LPG shortages are emerging from several cities in Uttar Pradesh. According to media reports, gas cylinders are facing shortages in districts like Rae Bareli, Basti, Kanpur, and Prayagraj. There are also complaints of delayed deliveries, with many locations taking seven to eight days to deliver after booking. This is the reason for the cylinder shortages in many cities across Uttar Pradesh.
With wedding season underway, people are in dire need of cylinders. However, commercial cylinders are not readily available. In many areas of Prayagraj, the price of a commercial cylinder for a wedding has reached ₹4,622. However, this includes a security deposit of ₹2,400. Media reports indicate that if you want to purchase five cylinders for a wedding, you will need to pay ₹11,600 as security money.
According to information received from the Prayagraj District Supply Office, as of April 23, 2,152 people had applied for cylinders. During the wedding season, some people need 10 cylinders, while others need 15. Consequently, 19,432 LPG cylinders will be needed. According to the District Supply Department, applicants can be provided with 3 to 5 commercial cylinders.
Bihar: LPG cylinder booking and supply problems are being faced in some areas of the state. To address cooking difficulties, the government has ordered the supply of coal to ration shops. This step may alleviate the LPG crisis and cooking difficulties in rural areas to some extent. Bookings for 1.58 lakh domestic cylinders are pending in Patna. The government has stated that those needing commercial cylinders for weddings must apply to the Sub-Divisional Officer's office.
Madhya Pradesh: Amidst the scorching heat, reports of cylinder shortages are emerging from some areas of Madhya Pradesh. In Bhopal, several people fainted and others became ill after standing in the hot sun for five to six hours to obtain a gas cylinder. In Maihar district, Madhya Pradesh, residents became enraged over the lack of cylinders and protested by blocking the Amarpatan-Satna road with empty cylinders.
Rajasthan: In many cities across the state, cylinder shortages, especially commercial cylinders, have increased. The administration has mandated that those seeking a cylinder for a wedding must apply, including the wedding card. The administration has even issued an order that wood and coal may be used in weddings to address the cylinder shortage.
