8th Pay Commission: Good news for government employees! An important step has been taken for the Eighth Pay Commission

There's some good news for central government employees and pensioners. Necessary steps are now underway to implement the Eighth Pay Commission. A three-day meeting has been scheduled for the Eighth Pay Commission, which began yesterday. It's being held in Delhi. According to Deputy Secretary Abhay N. Sahay, the meeting, scheduled from April 28th to 30th, will discuss issues related to the fitment factor and basic salary.

How much will your salary increase?

Representatives of employee organizations and unions have been invited to this meeting in Delhi. Three important issues will be discussed at this meeting.

Fitment Factor - Employee organizations have demanded an increase in the fitment factor. Currently, the fitment factor is 2.57. There are calls for this fitment factor to be increased to 3.25 or higher.

Basic Salary – Once the fitment factor is approved, employees' basic salaries will increase. Pensions and Allowances – Recommendations will also be made regarding pensions, dearness allowances, and other allowances for retired employees.

The commission has 18 months to submit final report

The government approved the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission on November 3, 2025. According to Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, the commission has 18 months to submit its final report. The commission is currently touring states and gathering information from stakeholders. This three-day meeting is considered crucial, following the meeting held on March 12. A Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action may be finalized at this meeting.
