Delhi Police Action: Before Republic Day, the Delhi Police took a step that caught everyone's attention. Within just 24 hours, more than 25,000 people were detained in the capital. Furthermore, 2,171 people were also arrested.

From social media to the public, the question resonated: what exactly happened that prompted the Delhi Police to take such drastic action. If you're wondering the same thing, it's important to understand the full story.

What is Operation Kavach-12

In anticipation of Republic Day, the Delhi Police launched a large-scale search and checking operation in the capital under "Operation Kavach-12." This action was specifically aimed at narco-offenders and organized crime.

All crime districts, units, branches, and the Special Cell of the Delhi Police were deployed simultaneously. This joint operation involved simultaneous raids and checks at 2,348 locations across 15 police districts. The objective was clear: to ensure complete security in the capital before Republic Day.

How many people were arrested in 24 hours? In which cases was action taken?

In this massive crackdown by the Delhi Police, 4,082 people were taken into preventive custody. A further 25,300 were detained under the Delhi Police Act. This figure in itself speaks to the scale and scope of the operation.

According to Crime Branch Special CP Devesh Srivastava, the entire operation was coordinated and targeted. During the operation, 59 narco-offenders were arrested in 55 cases under the NDPS Act. A large quantity of drugs and cash were also recovered from them.

Additionally, 231 cases were registered under the Delhi Excise Act, resulting in 238 arrests. Thirty-one proclaimed offenders, 21 auto lifters, and 33 stolen vehicles were recovered. Additionally, 2,276 vehicles were seized under sections 66 of the DP Act.

When did Operation Kavach start?

The Delhi Police launched Operation Kavach in May 2023. Its mission is to root out drug trafficking and supply networks. This operation targets everyone from street-level peddlers to major drug traffickers.

The police employed both a top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top strategy to reach every link in the drug network. Prior to Operation Kavach-12, 11 major operations had been conducted. Each time, large quantities of drugs and criminals were seized. Considering Republic Day, the police took no risks this time.
