Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded India’s automobile sector, stating that the government and industry must work hand in hand to transform the country into a developed nation. He emphasized the need for self-reliance across the entire automobile manufacturing ecosystem, noting that India is making rapid strides in green mobility and smart transportation, presenting significant opportunities for investment and collaboration. Modi described the automobile industry as the backbone of India’s economy, highlighting its role in improving transportation, enhancing quality of life, and strengthening the Make-in-India initiative, which has earned global trust and positioned India as a major hub for automobile manufacturing.
In recent developments, Modi flagged off the first batch of Suzuki e-Vitara from the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, marking a key milestone in India’s electric vehicle production. He also inaugurated the nation’s first plant for hybrid battery electrodes, reinforcing India’s focus on self-reliance and sustainable mobility.
With these initiatives, vehicles manufactured in India are now set to be exported to over 100 countries, showcasing the sector’s growing global footprint. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari added that the government aims to make India the number one automobile industry in the world within the next five years, a challenging yet achievable goal given the country’s trained workforce and the presence of major automotive companies.
