After delivering a massive blockbuster with Gadar 2 in 2023, expectations are sky-high for this patriotic war drama, which builds on the legacy of the 1997 classic Border.

Although Sunny Deol’s recent film Jaat failed to leave a strong mark, Border 2 is already generating significant excitement ahead of its Republic Day release. The advance booking numbers suggest that the film could further cement the actor’s comeback at the box office.

According to reports by Sacnilk, Border 2 has shown an impressive response in advance bookings. As of Wednesday, the film sold close to 60,000 tickets in a single day, taking the total advance ticket sales to over 1.75 lakh tickets.

These bookings span around 13,553 shows nationwide. Early estimates indicate that the film has already earned more than ₹5 crore through advance bookings, with updated figures expected to push ticket sales beyond the 2 lakh mark.

How does Border 2 compare with Gadar 2?

When Gadar 2 was released, it created an unprecedented frenzy, selling around 2.74 lakh tickets in advance bookings. While matching that record may be challenging, Border 2 is expected to close advance bookings somewhere between 2 to 2.5 lakh tickets, which would still be a very strong result.

If this momentum continues, it could give the film a major boost in its opening-day and opening-weekend collections.

Opening day box office expectations

Releasing on Republic Day gives Border 2 a clear advantage, as patriotic films traditionally perform well during national holidays. Trade estimates suggest that the film could open with a net collection of ₹30–35 crore on its first day.

For comparison, Gadar 2 had recorded an opening-day collection of around ₹40 crore. While Border 2 may fall slightly short of that benchmark, the numbers would still be considered strong and could set the stage for a successful first week.

Whether Border 2 can fully replicate the historic success of Gadar 2 will depend on word of mouth and sustained audience interest after release.
