Bhojpuri film actress Akanksha Awasthi is currently making headlines, not for her work in films or music videos, but due to a serious legal controversy. Akanksha and her husband Vivek Awasthi have been accused of cheating and financial fraud worth ₹11.50 crore, following a complaint filed by a Mumbai-based customs clearance agent. The case is now under police investigation.
Complaint Filed by Mumbai Customs Agent
According to media reports, Hitesh Kantilal Ajmera, who works as a customs clearance agent in Mumbai, has lodged an FIR against Akanksha Awasthi and her husband Vivek Kumar, also known as Abhishek Kumar Singh Chauhan. The complainant alleges that the couple duped him of a large sum of money by making false promises related to film industry connections and high-return investments.
Akanksha Awasthi is a well-known name in the Bhojpuri entertainment industry and has appeared in several films and popular songs over the years. The allegations have therefore come as a shock to her fans and colleagues.
Alleged Fraud of ₹11.50 Crore
In his complaint, Hitesh Ajmera stated that the accused claimed they had strong connections within the film industry and persuaded him to invest money by promising substantial profits. He further alleged that they told him several crores of rupees were stuck due to legal complications and that his financial help would help resolve the issue.
Trusting their assurances, Ajmera reportedly transferred ₹11.50 crore to multiple bank accounts provided by Vivek.
‘He Never Returned After Getting Out of the Car’
As per the FIR, Vivek allegedly told the complainant that nearly ₹300 crore was stuck in a warehouse in Bettiah, Bihar, due to legal hurdles. He reportedly promised that if Ajmera helped him clear the issue, he would return ₹200 crore within a few days.
The complaint further claims that after receiving the money, Vivek got out of a car under the pretext of buying sweets — and never returned.
Investigation Ongoing
The police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter. Authorities are examining financial transactions and other evidence related to the allegations. No official statement has yet been issued by Akanksha Awasthi or her husband regarding the accusations.
The case has once again brought attention to alleged financial scams involving promises of film industry access and high-return investments, an issue that law enforcement agencies have repeatedly warned against.
