Aprilia has refreshed its maxi-scooter line-up in India with the launch of the new SXR GT range. The Italian two-wheeler manufacturer has introduced two variants — the SXR GT 125 hp-e and SXR GT 175 hp-e — bringing updated engines, larger wheels and additional technology to the familiar maxi-scooter design.
The SXR GT 125 hp-e is priced at ₹1.11 lakh, while the SXR GT 175 hp-e costs ₹1.31 lakh, with both prices being ex-showroom.
New SXR GT Replaces the Previous SXR Models
The new SXR GT range takes the place of the earlier SXR 125 and SXR 160, which were discontinued earlier this year.
Rather than being an entirely new scooter, the SXR GT retains the familiar maxi-scooter design but gets important mechanical and feature upgrades. The large front apron, broad seat and substantial bodywork continue to give the scooter its distinctive touring-oriented appearance.
The "GT" badge also reflects Aprilia's focus on providing a more comfortable riding experience for longer journeys.
SXR GT 125 Gets a 124.5cc Engine
The SXR GT 125 is powered by a 124.5cc, single-cylinder petrol engine.
The motor produces 10.6 hp at 7,400 rpm and 10.4 Nm of peak torque at 6,200 rpm. The engine complies with BS6 OBD-II Stage B emission standards and is compatible with E20 petrol.
For buyers looking for a premium-looking maxi-scooter with a smaller engine, the 125 variant offers a more accessible entry point into the range.
SXR GT 175 Offers More Performance
The larger SXR GT 175 uses a 174.7cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine.
It produces 13.3 hp at 7,200 rpm and 14.1 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. Like the smaller model, it is BS6 OBD-II Stage B compliant and can run on E20 fuel.
The additional engine capacity gives the 175 a performance advantage over the 125, making it the more powerful option in the range.
Bigger 14-Inch Wheels for Both Models
One of the most notable changes is the addition of 14-inch wheels on both variants.
The larger wheels are designed to improve stability and handling, particularly when riding over uneven or broken road surfaces. They can also provide greater confidence when riding at higher speeds.
The underlying platform is derived from the respective SR models introduced previously.
SXR GT 175 Gets More Premium Features
The SXR GT 175 is positioned as the more feature-rich version of the two.
It gets a 5-inch TFT instrument display with Bluetooth connectivity. The system supports features such as turn-by-turn navigation along with call and music controls.
The scooter also gets additional handlebar controls, single-channel ABS and a redesigned exhaust end pipe with a heat shield.
These additions give the 175 a more premium feel and make it better equipped for riders who prioritise technology and convenience.
SXR GT 125 Gets LCD Display and CBS
The more affordable SXR GT 125 comes with a 5-inch LCD instrument cluster.
For braking, it uses a Combined Braking System (CBS) instead of ABS. While it misses some of the premium equipment offered on the 175, it retains the maxi-scooter styling and larger 14-inch wheels.
At ₹1.11 lakh, it is ₹20,000 cheaper than the SXR GT 175.
Price and Variant Comparison
| Model | Engine | Power | Torque | Key Features | Ex-showroom Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SXR GT 125 hp-e | 124.5cc | 10.6 hp | 10.4 Nm | 5-inch LCD, CBS, 14-inch wheels | ₹1.11 lakh |
| SXR GT 175 hp-e | 174.7cc | 13.3 hp | 14.1 Nm | 5-inch TFT, Bluetooth, navigation, ABS, 14-inch wheels | ₹1.31 lakh |
With the new SXR GT range, Aprilia has focused on improving an already familiar maxi-scooter package rather than completely redesigning it. The larger wheels, updated engines and additional features make the new models more appealing to riders looking for a premium scooter with a distinctive touring-oriented design.
