Missing Navi Mumbai Law Student Found Dead in 400-Foot Ravine at Lonavala Trekking Spot

The body of Shreya Narendrapati, a 20-year-old law student from Navi Mumbai who had gone missing during a trekking trip to Lonavala, was recovered from a deep ravine near Tiger Point on Saturday following an extensive search operation.

According to police, Shreya had travelled to Lonavala on January 31, 2026, for trekking and was last known to be exploring the Duke’s Nose area. When she failed to return home by evening, her family grew concerned and began searching for her through the night. After no leads emerged, a missing person complaint was lodged at the Lonavala Rural Police Station on the morning of February 1.

During the investigation, police discovered an abandoned bag near Tiger Point, later identified as belonging to Shreya. This prompted authorities to intensify the search and call in a specialized rescue team from Shivdurg Mitra Trekkers. The operation, which began around 2:30 pm, involved a dog squad, police personnel, and drones, including high-intensity lightning drones to navigate the difficult terrain.

At approximately 4:45 pm, drone footage located Shreya’s body in a ravine nearly 390 to 400 feet deep. Despite low visibility, steep cliffs, and challenging conditions, the rescue team carried out a careful retrieval using ropes and a stretcher. The body was finally brought out of the ravine at around 9:30 pm.

Police officials said the case is currently being treated as a suspected suicide, with preliminary information pointing to possible domestic stress. However, investigators are also examining whether the incident could have been a tragic accident during trekking or if any other factors were involved. Further inquiry is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to her death.
