Fans have been eagerly waiting for the next chapter of Kalki 2898 AD, but the sequel appears to be facing another delay. The major reason is Prabhas' packed schedule, with the actor committed to multiple big-budget projects.
After Kalki 2898 AD became a major success, expectations from its sequel are extremely high. However, the film's production schedule now appears to be getting complicated as Prabhas has to complete Fauji before moving on to his next projects.
Kalki 2 shooting has already begun
The sequel's production has reportedly started, with Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan among the first actors to join the sets.
Their characters — Ashwatthama and Supreme Yaskin — are expected to play important roles in the sequel, making their early involvement significant for the production.
According to reports, two major shooting schedules have already been completed. However, the biggest star of the film, Prabhas, has not yet joined the shoot.
Why is Prabhas unable to join Kalki 2?
Prabhas is currently focusing on Fauji, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi.
The film is scheduled to release on December 3, and its production still has important portions to complete. As a result, Prabhas is reportedly working on Fauji without major breaks.
The actor had earlier been expected to allocate dates to the Kalki sequel around September. However, his schedule has reportedly changed because of his commitments to Fauji.
Spirit is next on Prabhas' list
Prabhas' schedule becomes even more complicated after Fauji.
The actor is expected to move on to Spirit, which is being directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The film has already generated considerable anticipation and is reportedly planned for release in March 2027.
With Fauji followed by Spirit, Prabhas' availability for Kalki 2 has become a major scheduling issue.
Kalki 2 may now continue next year
According to the report, the shooting schedule involving Prabhas has been pushed to next year.
This does not mean the entire production has stopped. The team has reportedly already built sets and completed portions of filming with other members of the cast.
However, the makers will need to coordinate Prabhas' dates with the remaining production schedule.
Delay could increase the production cost
Large-scale films such as Kalki 2 require expensive sets, equipment, technicians and large crews. When production schedules are extended, maintaining these arrangements can increase costs.
The delay could therefore create additional financial pressure for the makers, particularly if sets and other production facilities need to be maintained for longer than originally planned.
When will Prabhas return to Kalki 2?
For now, the makers reportedly have little choice but to wait for Prabhas to complete his existing commitments.
With Fauji and Spirit occupying the actor's schedule, the Kalki sequel may have to accommodate his availability rather than the other way around.
For fans, the wait could be longer than expected, but with the production already underway and major actors having completed portions of the shoot, the sequel continues to move forward behind the scenes.
The biggest question now is when Prabhas will finally join the sets and how his packed schedule will affect the film's eventual release timeline.
