India react on Trump Tariff: The central government said that India is committed to a fair trade agreement and will take all necessary steps considering the protection of the interests of farmers, entrepreneurs and MSME as paramount.
US President Donald Trump has unilaterally announced to impose 25 percent tariff on India, on which India's first reaction has come. The Indian government has said that it is studying this announcement in depth. The government says that all necessary steps will be taken to protect national interests. India has once again made it clear that there is no question of bowing down to any pressure.
India is committed to bilateral trade agreement
The Indian government has also clarified that negotiations have been going on with the United States for the last few months for a fair, balanced and mutually beneficial bilateral trade agreement. India is fully committed to this objective and is moving forward towards a solution through constructive dialogue.
National interest is paramount
The government has said that it gives top priority to protecting the interests of the country's farmers, entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME). Along with this, the government also assured that it will take all steps necessary to protect national interests, as seen in the recent comprehensive economic and trade agreement with Britain.
It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (July 30, 2025) unilaterally announced that a 25 percent tariff will be imposed on India. Trump said that India will have to pay 25 percent tariff from August 1.
Donald Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth, 'India is our friend, but we have done relatively less trade with India in the last several years because their tariffs are very high, the highest in the world.' Trump further wrote, 'That is why India will have to pay 25 percent tariff and penalty from August 1.
