Six Dead, 27 Injured in Powerful Explosion at Nowgam Police Station

A powerful explosion shook the Nowgam police station in Srinagar late Friday night around 11:30 pm, leaving six people dead and 27 injured. The blast triggered a massive fire, engulfing more than a dozen vehicles, and caused severe damage to nearby houses, shattering windows across the area. The impact was so intense that the sound of the explosion was heard in Chanpora, Sanatnagar, Rawalpora, and Pantha Chowk.

According to initial reports, the explosion occurred while officials were handling samples of explosive material seized earlier from Faridabad, though authorities have not yet issued an official confirmation. The seized material was ammonium nitrate. The injured have been rushed to Ujala Cygnus Hospital, SMHS, and the 92 Base Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

This is the same police station whose investigation had recently uncovered terror modules linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. The SHO’s team had earlier arrested two overground workers and recovered 2,900 kg of explosives along with a large cache of weapons from Faridabad.
