Richa Ghosh Honored as DSP and Awarded Golden Bat After World Cup Triumph

Indian women’s cricket star Richa Ghosh received a grand honor from the West Bengal government following India’s historic ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory. At an event held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 8, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appointed the 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and awarded her the prestigious Banga Bhushan, the state’s second-highest civilian honor. She was also presented with a special gold chain by the Chief Minister.

Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Sourav Ganguly honored Richa with ₹3.4 million as a cash reward, calculated as ₹1 lakh for every run she scored in the final against South Africa, where she made a significant contribution of 34 runs. Additionally, the CAB gifted her a gold-plated bat and ball in recognition of her outstanding performance.

Richa’s batting throughout the World Cup was remarkable—accumulating 235 runs in eight innings at an impressive strike rate of 133. She equaled the world record for most sixes in a single Women’s World Cup, hitting 12 sixes. Her fearless and powerful batting played a crucial role in India’s maiden World Cup triumph, earning her accolades from fans and officials alike.

This recognition marks Richa Ghosh as not only a cricketing hero but also a celebrated public figure in her home state, symbolizing the growing respect and rewards for women’s sports in India.
