ISRO Recruitment 2026: ISRO and the Department of Space have issued a notification for the recruitment of 746 positions. This includes 410 apprentice positions and 92 scientist/engineer positions. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online on the official website.

ISRO Recruitment 2026: The Department of Space (DoS) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) have released notifications for their largest recruitment drive in recent years. The Department of Space and ISRO have launched the recruitment process for 746 different positions. At least 43 of these positions are backlogged. All ISRO job openings can be found on the official website, isro.gov.in/careers.

The application must be made online. Interested and eligible candidates can fill the form on ISRO's official recruitment portal until August 17, 2026. ISRO issued three notifications between July 27 and July 29 for recruitment to these posts. This includes 336 regular and 410 apprenticeship posts. Under this ISRO recruitment process, recruitment will be done for positions ranging from scientists and engineers to administrative staff and apprentices. This includes 92 positions for scientists and engineers. The salary of an ISRO scientist is according to Pay Matrix Level-10.

How many vacancies for which posts?

ISRO's recruitment drive has been divided into different categories to provide opportunities to candidates from all walks of life and qualifications: The largest segment of this latest recruitment drive is for 244 Level-4 administrative positions through the ISRO Centralized Recruitment Board (ICRB). These include 113 Assistants, 81 Junior Personal Assistants, 22 Upper Division Clerks, 10 Stenographers, 17 Assistants for Autonomous Institutions, and one Junior Personal Assistant for an Autonomous Institution.

The recruitment also includes 92 Scientist/Engineer 'SC' positions in Level 10 of the Pay Matrix. Electronics has the highest number of vacancies at 34. This is followed by Mechanical (26), Computer Science (13), Civil (10), Electrical (4), Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning (2), Architecture (2), and one Civil Engineer position at the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad.

Along with permanent recruitment, URSC, Bengaluru has announced 410 apprenticeship positions for 2026-27. These include 220 graduate apprentices, 120 technician apprentices, and 70 Diploma in Commercial Practice apprentices.

Graduate apprenticeships have the highest number of openings in electronics and communication engineering (83 posts), followed by mechanical (50), computer science (40), chemical (15), industrial engineering and management (10), aeronautical (10), aerospace (10) and automobile engineering (2). Technician apprenticeships include 38 electronics, 30 computer science, 30 mechanical, 10 electrical, 5 civil, 5 instrumentation and 2 automobile engineering posts.

Apprentice and Scientist Salary

ISRO recruits apprentices to meet legal requirements under the Apprentices Act, 1961, and to train new graduates. All candidates receive a monthly stipend ranging from ₹10,900 to ₹12,300. Candidates selected for the Scientist/SC position will receive a starting basic pay of ₹56,100 per month. They will also receive benefits such as DA, HRA, and medical allowance as per central government regulations.

Qualification required for job in ISRO

To be recruited for scientist and engineer positions, candidates must have a BE or BTech degree in the relevant trade, with at least 65% marks. This time, shortlisting for scientist positions will be based on GATE (2025 or 2026) scores. Those shortlisted will then be called for interviews. Final selection will carry 50% weightage for GATE scores and 50% for the interview. For administrative and apprentice positions, selection will be based on separate written exams or merit.
