PM Modi Signals Continued GST Reforms, Promises Lower Tax Burden at UP Trade Fair

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has indicated that GST reforms in India will continue, with a focus on reducing the tax burden on ordinary citizens. Speaking at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Fair in Greater Noida, Modi emphasized that recent changes to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) are part of an ongoing process aimed at strengthening the economy and boosting people’s savings.

Modi noted that the GST system, initially implemented in 2017, was a major step toward economic consolidation. Further reforms announced by the GST Council on September 3rd, and effective from September 22nd, mark the next phase of these efforts. Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the fair at the India Expo Centre and Mart, he stated, “We will not stop here… as the economy strengthens, the tax burden will reduce. With the blessings of our countrymen, GST reforms will continue.”

The Prime Minister highlighted that these structural reforms are expected to give new momentum to India’s growth story, enhance transparency in taxation, and increase disposable income for citizens over time.
