Mumbai Indians Appoint Two-Time World Cup Winner Lisa Keightley as Head Coach

Mumbai Indians, the most successful franchise in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), has made a landmark decision by appointing former Australian cricketer Lisa Keightley as their new head coach. Keightley, a key member of Australia’s World Cup-winning squads in 1997 and 2005, brings a wealth of experience to the team. Under her guidance, Mumbai Indians aim to continue their dominant run, having already won the WPL titles in 2023 and 2025.

Lisa Keightley’s cricketing career is illustrious. She played nine Tests and 82 ODIs for Australia, along with one T20 International, scoring 2,630 runs in ODIs, including four centuries and 21 half-centuries, and 378 runs in Tests. She also became the first Australian woman to score a century at the historic Lord’s ground. After retiring in 2002, she returned a year later and won the Belinda Clark Medal in the 2004 season.

Post-retirement, Keightley turned to coaching, taking charge of New South Wales and later serving as head coach of both the Australian and England women’s teams. Her final Test match in 2005 saw Australia lose to England in the Ashes for the first time in 42 years, but she ended her ODI career on a high note with a 3-2 series win. Her appointment as Mumbai Indians’ head coach adds immense international expertise to the team, and fans are excited to see her impact in the upcoming WPL season.
