ICC vs PCB: Pakistan Faces Heat for PMOA Violation After Sharing Video from Restricted Area

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has landed in fresh controversy during the 2025 Asia Cup. Already in the spotlight after the much-talked-about handshake row with India, the PCB now faces serious charges of breaching ICC protocols by violating the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) rules.

The Video Blunder

Tensions began after India refused to shake hands with Pakistani players following their group-stage clash, leading to uproar in Pakistan. The PCB demanded action against match referee Andy Pycroft and even threatened to boycott its next match against the UAE. Pycroft later clarified the incident, convincing Pakistan to continue playing.

However, in the middle of this storm, the PCB made a major misstep. During a meeting between Andy Pycroft, the Pakistan captain, and the head coach inside the referee’s operations room, the PCB’s media manager not only entered the restricted area but also recorded the discussion on video. This video was later shared on social media, sparking accusations of a PMOA breach.

What Are PMOA Rules?

The Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) is a restricted zone within stadiums that covers:

  • Team and match officials’ dressing rooms

  • The match area (including dug-outs)

  • Umpires’ and referees’ rooms

  • Dining areas used by players and officials

  • Any area designated by the ICC Anti-Corruption Manager

Access to these zones is strictly controlled, permitted only to players, match officials, and accredited coaching staff. Use of communication devices and recording equipment inside PMOA is also prohibited.

By allowing the media manager into Andy Pycroft’s room and circulating a video of the meeting, the PCB is alleged to have clearly violated PMOA rules.

Possible Consequences

Breaking PMOA protocols is considered a serious offense under ICC regulations and can result in fines or other disciplinary action. With the matter now under ICC’s radar, the Pakistan Cricket Board could face sanctions, adding to its troubles during the ongoing Asia Cup.
