Apple is set to bring Siri into the AI era with the introduction of a Gemini-powered version, expected to debut in February 2026. Reports indicate that this new Siri will be significantly smarter than the current voice assistant, marking the first major result of Apple’s AI collaboration with Google. A full AI chatbot version of Siri may follow later in June during WWDC 2026.
Apple’s Push to Make Siri Smarter
Launched in 2010, Siri was once a popular voice assistant. However, in the age of generative AI, it has lagged behind competitors like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. At WWDC 2024, Apple acknowledged the need for a next-generation upgrade, but delays in developing in-house AI models slowed progress. According to Bloomberg, Apple is now close to overcoming these challenges.
Why Google Gemini?
Apple has chosen Google’s Gemini AI to power the next-gen Siri. Talks with OpenAI and Anthropic reportedly failed due to cost and strategic issues. Gemini’s rapid development and favorable terms made it an ideal partner. The Gemini-based Siri will initially operate on Apple’s private Cloud Compute servers, ensuring user privacy.
Gemini-Powered Siri Arrives in February
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new Siri could be announced in the third or fourth week of February 2026. The update will launch in beta with iOS 26.4 and may roll out to all users by March or April. Apple refers to this system as Apple Foundation Models version 10, featuring around 1.2 trillion parameters, with Gemini playing a central role.
Full Chatbot Siri Coming in June
While the February update will make Siri smarter, the real transformation is expected at WWDC 2026, when a full chatbot-style Siri will launch with iOS 27. This version will support long, natural conversations similar to ChatGPT and Gemini, built on Apple Foundation Model version 11. Some features may even leverage Google Cloud to enhance speed and accuracy.
With this update, Siri is poised to catch up with modern AI assistants and offer a significantly more intelligent and conversational experience for Apple users.
