A bizarre and highly embarrassing incident from Bihar has sent shockwaves through the state's administration, raising serious questions about the rule of law. While Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary’s government has been aggressively pursuing criminals under the fierce anti-gang campaign "Operation Langda," a local police team experienced a humiliating reversal of power during a recent raid.
Instead of cornering the criminals, the raiding officers were forced to line up and submit to a body search by the criminal’s family and supporters before being allowed inside the house.
The Incident: Audacity Over Authority
The shocking incident unfolded in Nauranga village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Mokama police station. A police contingent had arrived to raid the residence of the notorious sibling gangster duo, Sonu and Monu.
The raid was triggered after Mukesh Kumar—a close aide of Mokama MLA Anant Singh—narrowly survived a shooting targeted at him the previous day. The local Sonu-Monu gang was heavily suspected to be behind the hit.
However, when the police team reached the gangster’s stronghold, they were met with absolute defiance. The family members and local loyalists of Sonu and Monu refused to let the uniform-clad officers enter. Instead, they demanded that the police officers stand in a straight line and undergo a thorough frisking to ensure they weren't planting anything. Shockingly, the officers complied.
Political Backlash and Swift Suspension
A photograph and video of the law enforcement officers submissively waiting in line to be searched by civilians quickly went viral on social media, instantly turning into a major political ammunition for the opposition. Critics are calling out the imagery as a glaring breakdown of state authority, questioning how the public can feel safe if the police themselves are being intimidated by gangs.
In a rapid damage-control exercise to salvage its reputation, the Police Headquarters took strict disciplinary action:
-
Two Officers Suspended: The two frontline officers identified standing submissively in the viral clip were immediately placed under suspension for compromising the dignity of the uniform.
-
Zero Arrests Made: Adding to the embarrassment, the primary targets, Sonu and Monu, were nowhere to be found and managed to evade the compromised raid. The police team ultimately had to settle for seizing an old motorcycle linked to a separate case.
The Irony of "Operation Langda"
This incident has occurred at a time when the Bihar Police has significantly turned up the heat on the state's underworld. Under "Operation Langda," the police have taken a zero-tolerance approach to instill fear in active criminals, resulting in nearly 15 gangsters being shot in encounters over the past month alone.
The Bottom Line: Despite the state's aggressive stance against organized crime, the viral image from Mokama highlights a deep-rooted fear and influence that local gangsters still hold over ground-level enforcement. For a police force actively executing a state-wide crackdown, being searched by a criminal's family is a massive systemic wake-up call.
