Royal Enfield on Alert as Triumph Prepares 350cc Bikes for April Launch

British motorcycle brand Triumph Motorcycles is reportedly gearing up to shake the Indian mid-capacity bike segment by introducing a new range of motorcycles below the 350cc mark as early as April 2026. According to multiple reports, Triumph is developing an all-new 350cc engine derived from its existing 398cc platform. While it remains unclear whether the current 400cc lineup will continue alongside these new models, the move signals a clear intent to tap into a more tax-efficient and price-sensitive segment of the market.

This new engine project is said to be a joint effort involving Bajaj Auto, KTM, and Triumph, keeping India’s revised GST structure firmly in mind. Under the updated tax policy, motorcycles with engine capacities under 350cc attract a significantly lower GST rate of 18%, while bikes above this threshold are taxed at a steep 40%. This has pushed manufacturers to rethink their engine strategies, especially in the competitive mid-capacity space.

The upcoming sub-350cc Triumph motorcycles are expected to go head-to-head with Royal Enfield, which has long dominated this segment. While the reduced displacement may result in slightly lower power and torque figures compared to Triumph’s current 400cc models like the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, the overall design, features, chassis setup, and riding dynamics are likely to remain largely unchanged. Given that Triumph’s 400cc range is already its most affordable and successful offering, the introduction of even more accessible models could intensify competition and potentially reshape the balance of power in the mid-size motorcycle market.
