Electric vehicles are rapidly gaining momentum in India, and the coming years will see several major carmakers expanding their EV portfolios. With rising fuel prices and a growing focus on sustainability, many believe petrol and diesel cars may gradually lose their dominance. From compact SUVs to premium electric offerings, here are five upcoming electric cars that are expected to hit Indian roads soon.

Kia Syros EV

Kia India launched the Syros SUV in February 2025, and the company is now preparing to introduce its electric version. The Kia Syros EV is expected to be built on the K1 platform, which also underpins models like the Hyundai Casper and Inster in global markets.

This suggests a front-wheel-drive setup. The electric SUV is likely to get 42 kWh and 49 kWh battery packs, sourced from the Hyundai Inster. With this model, Kia aims to further strengthen its EV presence in India.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

Maruti Suzuki is set to enter the electric vehicle segment with its first EV, the e Vitara, expected to launch in 2026. The electric SUV will compete with models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE series, MG ZS EV, and Tata Curvv EV.

The e Vitara will be offered with 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery options and is claimed to deliver a range of up to 543 km on a single charge. It is also expected to come with a 5-star safety rating, making it a strong contender in the mid-size EV SUV space.

Tata Punch EV Facelift

Tata Motors has already updated the petrol version of the Punch and is now gearing up to launch the Punch EV facelift on February 20. The electric micro-SUV will continue with the same battery options as before.

• 25 kWh battery: 82 hp, 114 Nm torque, approx. 265 km range

• 35 kWh battery: 122 hp, 190 Nm torque, approx. 365 km range

The facelift is expected to bring design updates and improved features, making it even more appealing to urban EV buyers.

Tata Sierra EV

The iconic Tata Sierra is set to return in a fully electric avatar. Built on Tata’s advanced Acti.EV+ platform, the Sierra EV is expected to launch in the first half of 2026.

It will likely be offered with 55 kWh and 65 kWh battery packs, along with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) option from the start. Compared to the ICE version, the Sierra EV will feature a distinct front design and a modern, tech-heavy cabin.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric (Ebella)

Toyota has already unveiled the Urban Cruiser Ebella, which is essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti e Vitara. This electric SUV will also come with 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery options.

• 61 kWh version: 171.6 hp, 189 Nm torque

• 49 kWh version: 106 hp

The claimed range is up to 543 km on a single charge, and the SUV will be available in both 2WD and AWD configurations.
