Patna NEET Student Death Case: SIT Scans 40+ CCTV Cameras, Questions 15 People, Submits Report to DGP

The investigation into the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant in Patna has reached a crucial stage. The Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed amid public and political pressure, has completed its probe so far and submitted a detailed report to Bihar’s Director General of Police (DGP). During the investigation, the SIT reviewed footage from more than 40 CCTV cameras and questioned over 15 individuals, including the student’s family members, relatives, hostel staff, and close acquaintances.

The case pertains to the death of a NEET student who was staying at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Patna’s Chitragupta Nagar area. Her sudden death on January 11 triggered massive outrage across the state, forcing the Nitish Kumar government to constitute a high-level SIT. As part of the probe, the team also questioned three close friends of the deceased; however, they were later released after preliminary interrogation.

Investigators carefully examined CCTV footage tracking the student’s movements from her hometown Jehanabad to the railway station and onward to Patna. All the footage collected from hostels, hospitals, and her native place has been securely stored on a pen drive and included in the investigation record. The SIT has also prepared a separate report based on inquiries conducted at hospitals linked to the case.

Awaiting AIIMS and FSL Reports

Despite the submission of the SIT’s interim findings, key forensic evidence is still awaited. Reports from Patna AIIMS and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have not yet been received. Officials say the complete truth behind the student’s death will become clear only after these crucial reports are analyzed. The SIT’s report submitted to the DGP outlines who was questioned, what information was sought, and what facts emerged during the investigation so far.

Post-Mortem Findings Raise Serious Concerns

Meanwhile, the student’s post-mortem report has revealed disturbing details. According to the report, multiple injury marks were found on her body, including nail scratches on the neck, dried blood crusts, puncture marks in veins, and bruises on the arms, chest, back, knee, and other parts. Some injuries appeared fresh, while others were older. Bluish bruises and swelling were also observed, along with blood oozing from veins around the neck.

Most alarming were the injuries found around the student’s private parts, which have raised suspicions of possible sexual assault. These findings have further intensified demands for a thorough and transparent investigation.

With the SIT report now in the hands of the DGP and forensic reports awaited, the case continues to draw intense scrutiny from the public, opposition parties, and civil society, all seeking justice for the deceased student.
