If you regularly order food while traveling on trains, this update is important. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has taken strict action against several unauthorized apps and websites offering “Meal on Wheels” or e-catering services.
Many of these platforms were found to be fake or misleading, causing passengers to lose money without receiving food.
Fake Platforms Misusing IRCTC Name
According to IRCTC, several private websites and apps were illegally using its brand name to attract passengers. These platforms allegedly collected sensitive details such as:
-
PNR numbers
-
Mobile numbers
-
Email addresses
-
Payment information
In some cases, passengers placed orders and paid money but never received meals during their journey.
Legal Action Taken in Phases
IRCTC began action against these platforms earlier this year:
-
February 18, 2026: First set of legal notices issued
-
March 16, 2026: First criminal complaint filed
-
April 11, 2026: Second complaint submitted
Following these actions, several unauthorized operators were identified and targeted for legal enforcement.
Websites and Apps Under Action
IRCTC has taken action against multiple unauthorized platforms, including:
railrestro.com / railrestro.in, railmitra.com, travelkhana.com, trainscafe.com, dibrail.com, railfood.net, comesum.com, travelerfood.com, foodontrack.in, ecatering.app, khanaonline.in, trainway.in, railmeal.com, and trainmenu.com.
Official IRCTC E-Catering Network
Despite the crackdown, IRCTC continues to operate its official e-catering service across India. As of April 2026, the service is available at more than 400 railway stations.
The system includes:
-
629 direct vendors
-
13 authorized food aggregators
-
Over 5,604 total vendor partners
On average, more than 1.55 lakh meals are delivered daily to passengers through this service.
Final Thoughts
IRCTC’s crackdown aims to protect passengers from fraud and ensure safe, reliable food delivery during train journeys. Travelers are advised to use only official IRCTC-approved platforms for ordering food to avoid scams and data misuse.
