JSW Motor India has unveiled its latest and most premium SUV, the MG Majestor, marking a significant entry in the D+ segment. Succeeding the MG Gloster, the Majestor was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2025 and now makes its full debut with robust styling, advanced features, and off-road capabilities. Expected customer deliveries are set to begin in May 2026, while pricing details are anticipated in April. The Majestor is positioned to rival the Toyota Fortuner, one of India’s most popular premium SUVs.
Engine and Performance
The MG Majestor comes equipped with a 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine producing 216 horsepower, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine setup mirrors that of the outgoing Gloster.
The Toyota Fortuner, in comparison, offers two powertrain options: a 2.7-liter petrol engine and a 2.8-liter diesel engine. The Fortuner delivers 201 horsepower and 500 Nm torque, with 2WD and 4WD variants. The 2.8-liter turbo-diesel model now features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system enhancing efficiency and performance.
Interior and Features
Inside the Majestor, luxury and technology are prioritized. Features include ventilated seats with multiple massage modes, a 12-speaker JBL audio system, 64-color ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. The driver’s seat offers 12-way adjustment, and a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is paired with a fully digital instrument cluster.
The Fortuner cabin focuses on comfort and practicality, with dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats, a reclining second- and third-row, a center armrest, and a power tailgate. Technology includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an 11-speaker JBL audio system.
Safety and Assistance Systems
The MG Majestor features Level 2 ADAS, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, six airbags, hill-descent control, and a 360-degree HD camera. For off-road enthusiasts, it includes three differential locks and selectable drive modes: 2H, 4H, and 4L.
The Toyota Fortuner offers seven airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, ISOFIX mounts, hill assist, downhill assist, parking sensors, and a differential lock for off-road driving.
Verdict
Both SUVs deliver premium experiences, but cater to slightly different preferences. The MG Majestor emphasizes luxury, technology, and advanced driver-assistance systems, appealing to tech-savvy buyers seeking comfort and style. The Toyota Fortuner continues to excel in reliability, ruggedness, and versatility, making it a favorite for off-road enthusiasts and family use.
With the MG Majestor entering the market, the premium SUV segment in India is set for a competitive showdown, offering consumers more choices than ever between comfort, technology, and off-road performance.
