The Maruti Suzuki Eeco has achieved a major milestone in India by crossing 15 lakh (1.5 million) units in cumulative sales. Launched in January 2010, the van has remained popular among families as well as small businesses, shopkeepers, entrepreneurs, institutions, and commercial operators.
The Eeco's combination of large interior space, practical design, affordable pricing, and multiple configurations has helped it maintain strong demand for more than 16 years.
Its current ex-showroom price starts at ₹5.21 lakh and goes up to ₹6.46 lakh.
Sales have accelerated over the years
The Eeco's sales journey shows that demand for the van has actually become faster with time.
It took almost eight years to reach its first 5 lakh sales. The next 5 lakh units were sold in less than five years, while the most recent 5 lakh units were achieved in just around three and a half years.
This indicates that the Eeco has continued to attract buyers even after being on the market for many years.
Eeco Star Edition introduced
To celebrate the 15-lakh sales milestone, Maruti Suzuki has introduced the Eeco Star Edition.
The special edition gets 18 new exterior and interior accessories aimed at giving the van a more premium appearance. Body-coloured bumpers are among the visual changes.
However, there are no major mechanical changes. The focus is primarily on improving the van's appearance and cabin experience.
Available in 13 variants
The Eeco is offered in 13 variants, giving buyers several configurations to choose from.
The lineup includes:
- 5-seater passenger version
- 6-seater passenger version
- Tour V
- Ambulance variant
- Cargo variants
Customers can also choose between petrol and S-CNG powertrains, depending on their requirements.
This versatility allows the Eeco to serve very different purposes—from carrying a family to transporting goods or operating as a small commercial vehicle.
Strong demand from rural India
One of the most interesting aspects of the Eeco's success is its popularity outside major cities.
According to Maruti Suzuki, around 65% of Eeco sales came from rural markets in FY 2025-26. During the same period, approximately 55% of buyers were first-time car buyers, while more than 51% were business owners.
These figures highlight why the Eeco has become particularly important for India's small-business and self-employed communities.
Why is the Eeco still so popular?
The Eeco's appeal comes from its straightforward approach. It offers space, multiple seating configurations, CNG availability, relatively affordable pricing, and practical running costs in a single package.
For families requiring extra seating and businesses needing a compact people- or goods-carrier, the van can serve both roles.
After crossing 15 lakh sales, the Eeco has firmly established itself as one of India's most recognisable utility vans. Its strong rural presence, growing acceptance among first-time buyers, and popularity with business owners show that its success goes well beyond simply being an affordable family vehicle.
