Jeep, the globally popular SUV brand also sold in India, has announced a massive recall of 80,000 Wrangler SUVs in the United States. The recall has been issued after a defect was found in the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) of the vehicle.
What is the issue?
According to Jeep, a cable in the affected Wranglers may get compressed during assembly, which can cause the TPMS to stop working. This increases the risk of driving with unsafe tire pressure. To fix the problem, the company will inspect and replace the cable free of cost.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had launched an investigation in October last year after complaints of tire pressure warning lights in Wranglers. After several months of testing, the defect was officially confirmed in July this year.
Will this recall affect India?
Although the Jeep Wrangler is also sold in India, Jeep has clarified that the recall is limited to the US market only. Indian customers will not be impacted.
