MG Motor’s upcoming premium SUV for India, the MG Majestor, has been officially unveiled in the Middle East under the name ‘Rakan’. This global reveal gives a clear preview of what Indian buyers can expect, as the Rakan and the Majestor are essentially the same SUV tailored for different markets.
Once launched in India, the MG Majestor will be positioned above the MG Gloster in the company’s lineup. For reference, the Gloster is currently priced between ₹38.3 lakh and ₹42.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The Majestor will directly challenge popular full-size SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and Volkswagen Tayron—raising the big question: Is the Fortuner’s dominance finally under threat?
Bolder and More Aggressive Design
Compared to the Gloster, the Rakan sports a noticeably more upright and muscular design. The front features slim LED DRLs placed high on the fascia, while the main headlamps sit lower. A larger gloss-black grille, redesigned bumper, and prominent silver skid plates add to its road presence.
From the side, the SUV retains its familiar silhouette but gets new dual-tone alloy wheels and black cladding at the bottom. At the rear, connected LED taillamps, a revised bumper, and additional skid plates enhance its premium appeal.
Luxury-Focused Interior
Inside, the MG Rakan offers a brown and white dual-tone cabin, giving it a more upmarket feel. Key features include:
-
12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system
-
Fully digital instrument cluster
-
Power-adjustable front seats with massage function
-
Multi-zone climate control
-
12-speaker JBL sound system
-
Leatherette upholstery, rear AC vents, and USB charging ports
MG claims up to 2,400 litres of luggage space with the second and third rows folded. The India-bound Majestor is expected to offer a similar feature list.
Engine Options: Global vs India-Spec
In markets like Kuwait, the MG Rakan is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine producing around 247 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. It comes paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox, along with AWD, differential lock, and multiple terrain modes.
For India, the MG Majestor is expected to use the 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine from the Gloster, delivering around 212 bhp and 478 Nm of torque. It will likely be offered with an 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD setup.
What This Means for Fortuner
With aggressive styling, a feature-loaded cabin, and strong diesel power, the MG Majestor looks well-equipped to challenge the Toyota Fortuner’s long-standing dominance in the segment. Pricing and brand trust will be key—but on paper, MG seems ready to shake things up.
