Fortuner Fans Rejoice! Toyota’s Iconic ‘Bhaukaali’ SUV Is Set to Return with a Bold New Makeover

Toyota is gearing up to refresh its iconic SUV, the Toyota Fortuner, in the Indian market, and camouflaged test mules of the updated model have already been spotted on the roads. This upcoming version will be a mid-cycle facelift rather than a full-generation change, meaning the Fortuner’s core identity will remain intact. The overall bodyshell and silhouette are expected to stay largely the same, with only subtle tweaks to the sheet metal and no drastic changes to the window lines or proportions.

The most noticeable transformation will be at the front. The updated Fortuner is expected to get a completely redesigned front fascia featuring a new bumper, a revised grille, and sharper headlamps that give the SUV a more aggressive and modern look. On the sides, the wheel arches are likely to adopt a hexagonal design with chunky black cladding, enhancing its rugged appeal. Toyota is also expected to introduce freshly designed alloy wheels to further distinguish the facelifted model.

At the rear, the Fortuner may finally adopt a connected LED tail-lamp setup, a design trend it has so far avoided. The rear bumper is also expected to look bolder, with a prominent scuff plate that mirrors the front design. Interestingly, some renders suggest that the updated SUV could borrow styling cues from the Toyota Hilux, especially in bumper design, giving it a tougher, more global stance.

Inside the cabin, Toyota is expected to address one of the Fortuner’s long-standing criticisms—missing modern features. The facelifted version could get a larger touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multi-zone climate control, a better sound system, and even an electric sunroof. Mechanically, the SUV is likely to continue with the trusted 2.8-litre diesel engine, now paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system for improved efficiency. While the Hilux offers more advanced electrification options, a fully electric or strong-hybrid Fortuner seems unlikely for India at this stage. The updated Toyota Fortuner is expected to make its official debut in India by the end of this year, bringing a fresh dose of style and tech to one of the country’s most loved SUVs.
