Colombia Military Plane Crash: Over 100 Soldiers Onboard as Rescue Operations Continue

A major aviation incident has been reported in Colombia after a military aircraft carrying more than 100 soldiers crashed shortly after takeoff. The accident has raised serious concerns, with rescue teams racing against time to assess the situation.
Crash Near Puerto Leguízamo
According to Colombia’s Ministry of Defense, the aircraft involved was a C-130 Hercules, which went down near Puerto Leguízamo, close to the Peruvian border. The plane was reportedly carrying around 110 soldiers at the time of the दुर्घटना and crashed approximately 3 kilometres from the city.
Casualties Yet to Be Confirmed
Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of casualties. However, initial reports indicate that at least 20 injured soldiers have been rescued and are receiving medical attention. Emergency services and military personnel are continuing rescue and relief operations at the crash site.
Visuals Show Smoke and Emergency Response
Images from local media show thick smoke rising from the दुर्घटना site. Several military vehicles and trucks carrying personnel were seen arriving in the area as part of the rescue efforts.
Cause of Crash Unknown
Officials have stated that the exact cause of the crash remains unclear at this stage. The aircraft manufacturer, Lockheed Martin, has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
President Expresses Concern
Colombian President Gustavo Petro expressed deep concern over the accident, stating that he hopes there has been no loss of life. He also emphasized the need for accountability, warning that officials responsible for delays in military modernization would face action.
Aging Aircraft Under Scrutiny
The C-130 Hercules aircraft dates back to the 1950s. Colombia acquired these planes in the 1960s and has since upgraded them, often using second-hand components sourced from the United States. The incident has once again brought attention to the challenges of maintaining aging military equipment.
Recent Similar Incident
This crash follows a similar tragedy in Bolivia, where a C-130 aircraft went down in El Alto, resulting in over 20 deaths and around 30 injuries.
