India has appointed senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Vishwesh Negi as its next Ambassador to Iran, a move that comes at a time when geopolitical tensions in West Asia and concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz continue to remain high.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the appointment on Monday, stating that Negi, a 2002-batch IFS officer, will soon take charge in Tehran. He will succeed Rudra Gaurav Shrestha, who has been appointed as India's next Ambassador to Turkey.
