Apple CEO Tim Cook recently presented US President Donald Trump with a special gift—a unique glass piece crafted on a base of 24-carat gold. The large disc-shaped glass features the Apple logo alongside Trump's name, with inscriptions noting "Made in USA" and the year 2025. This distinctive item was designed by a US Marine Corps Corporal working at Apple, using materials from Corning Company and gold sourced from Utah.
Following the gift, Tim Cook announced a major expansion of Apple’s manufacturing investment in the United States. Cook revealed that Apple will now source rare earth magnets domestically, with MP Materials, a fully integrated American rare earth producer, supplying these essential components. This move is part of a broader initiative termed the American Manufacturing Program.
With an additional investment of $100 billion (approximately Rs 8.7 lakh crore), Apple’s total investment in US manufacturing has reached $600 billion (about Rs 53 lakh crore) over the past four years. Cook emphasized pride in this growth, highlighting that the program will generate more jobs and boost advanced manufacturing capabilities across the country.
Apple is collaborating with over ten companies as part of this program, including Coherent, Corning, Applied Materials, GlobalWafers America, Texas Instruments, Amcor, GlobalFoundries, Samsung, and Broadcom, all contributing to the production of parts for Apple products.
This strategic expansion showcases Apple’s commitment to bolstering US manufacturing and technological self-sufficiency amid evolving global economic dynamics.
