Air Fryer Hacks: Not Just for Cooking, These Kitchen Tricks Will Surprise You

Air fryers have quickly become a favourite kitchen appliance, especially among people who want to enjoy crispy food with less oil. From fries and snacks to vegetables and paneer, an air fryer can handle a wide variety of recipes.

But its usefulness doesn't end with cooking. Your air fryer can also help refresh damp, soggy or stale foods and bring back their crunch and aroma. This can be especially useful during humid weather, when moisture can affect everything from snacks and spices to bread and dry fruits.

Here are some clever ways to put your air fryer to work beyond regular cooking.

Bring Back the Crunch in Biscuits and Snacks

Biscuits, cookies and homemade snacks can lose their crispness when exposed to moisture. Instead of throwing them away, you can use your air fryer to revive them.

Place the snacks in the basket and heat them at around 160°C for 3–4 minutes. Allow them to cool for a few minutes afterwards, and they should become noticeably crispier.

Reheat Samosas and Kachoris Without Making Them Oily

Reheating fried snacks in a pan or microwave can leave them either greasy or soft. An air fryer is a better option when you want to retain their crisp exterior.

Place cold samosas, kachoris or similar snacks in the basket and heat them for a few minutes. You generally don't need to add extra oil. The hot circulating air helps restore their crunch while warming the filling.

Refresh Damp Spices and Nuts

Humidity can make whole spices lose their texture and aroma. Nuts and dried fruits can also become slightly soft when exposed to moisture.

An air fryer can help remove some of that excess moisture. Spread the spices or nuts in a thin layer and heat them briefly at a low temperature, keeping a close eye on them. Whole spices such as cumin, cardamom, bay leaves and star anise can regain some of their aroma after gentle heating.

Avoid overheating them, as spices and nuts can burn quickly.

Make Bread and Pav Fresh Again

Bread and pav can sometimes become soggy in humid weather or dry out after being stored in the refrigerator. An air fryer can help improve their texture.

For slightly moist bread or pav, heat it for about 2–3 minutes at a moderate temperature. If the bread has become dry, a very light mist of water can help before reheating it briefly.

The same technique can be useful for items such as kulcha and other breads that need a quick refresh.

A Handy Appliance for Humid Weather

An air fryer isn't just a machine for making fried food with less oil. With the right temperature and timing, it can also help refresh snacks, warm leftovers and reduce excess moisture from certain foods.

However, always use short heating intervals and check the food frequently. Delicate foods, nuts and spices can burn quickly, while excessive heat can make bread even drier.

So, the next time you reach for your air fryer, think beyond fries and nuggets. This compact appliance can have plenty of useful tricks up its sleeve.
