500 Rupees Fake Note: This husband and wife would print fake 500 rupee notes on bond paper. They would then cut them to the size of genuine notes using scissors and a steel scale. The counterfeit notes were designed to look exactly like genuine notes.
Telangana police have busted a counterfeit currency printing racket and arrested a husband and wife. Police investigations have revealed that the couple learned the technique of counterfeiting by watching YouTube videos and then began printing fake 500 rupee notes at home.
Police arrested the main accused, 38-year-old Bezwada Rajeev alias Raju, and his 26-year-old wife, Durgam Pavani. Counterfeit notes, printer-scanners, bond paper, and other materials used to produce counterfeit currency were recovered from their home.
Nalgonda DSP K. Shivaram Reddy said the accused learned the process of printing counterfeit notes by watching YouTube videos. They then purchased an HP printer, bond paper, and other necessary materials online and converted their home into a counterfeit currency factory.
On what basis did Telangana Police bust the fake currency printing gang?
According to the police, the accused printed fake 500 rupee notes on high-quality bond paper. They were then cut to the size of genuine notes using scissors and a steel scale. The counterfeit notes were designed to appear genuine at first glance.
The investigation also revealed that the accused targeted crowded markets, weekly fairs, small shops, and commercial establishments. Due to the rapid pace of transactions in such places, counterfeit notes were difficult to detect immediately. The gang particularly targeted elderly shopkeepers.
The entire racket was exposed when a milk vendor, Avula Kiran, found a counterfeit 500 rupee note. He filed a police complaint, following which a special team was formed and an investigation was launched.
Police raided the accused's home on June 15 and arrested them. During the search, 15 counterfeit 500 rupee notes, totaling 7,500 rupees, were recovered. Also seized were an HP printer-cum-scanner, 100 sheets of bond paper, shredded paper, scissors, a steel scale, a Sparkle pen, and an unregistered Pulsar motorcycle.
Police are now investigating who else is involved in this network and how many counterfeit notes have been circulated so far. During the investigation, it was also revealed that the main accused, Rajiv, has a prior criminal record. He has several cases registered against him in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh related to murder, attempted murder, and counterfeit currency. A "rowdy sheet" is also open against him at the Miryalaguda police station.
At present, the police is investigating the entire network and trying to find out whether this gang is connected to any big fake currency racket.
