Electric rickshaws have long been known for affordability and utility, but Omega Seiki is aiming to change that perception. The company showcased its premium electric rickshaw, Muse, at the Auto Expo 2023, featuring air conditioning, a sunroof, and several modern features rarely seen in three-wheelers. Recent reports suggest that Omega Seiki has now filed a patent for this model, indicating that a commercial launch could be on the horizon.
Modern Design with a Premium Touch
Unlike conventional e-rickshaws, the Muse features a more refined and contemporary design. It comes with a slightly sloping front windshield and a large glass area that enhances cabin space and visibility. The four-door layout provides better protection from weather and improves passenger safety. The front gets round LED headlamps, while halogen indicators are used for turn signals.
One of the standout exterior elements is the roof-mounted rear-view mirror, a design commonly seen in luxury buses. This setup offers a wider view of the road, which is especially helpful since the closed-body design limits the driver’s ability to check traffic by leaning out.
Feature-Rich Interior with Focus on Comfort
Inside, the electric rickshaw offers a simple yet spacious cabin. Key highlights include a touchscreen infotainment system, wireless phone charging, and a dedicated control panel for the air conditioning system. Rear roof-mounted AC vents ensure even cooling for passengers. The driver gets a quilted seat, while the rear bench can comfortably seat three passengers. A fixed glass roof further enhances comfort, especially during cooler or rainy weather.
Battery, Range and Performance
The Muse electric rickshaw is powered by an 8 kWh NMC battery. It offers an IDC-certified range of 150 km, while the real-world driving range is estimated to be around 100 km. The vehicle has a top speed of 50 km/h and a gradeability of 30 percent. It features an automatic transmission and a regenerative braking system that helps recover up to 15 percent energy. Charging takes approximately four hours. With a kerb weight of 500 kg, the rickshaw offers a substantial loading capacity of 950 kg.
A Step Forward for Electric Three-Wheelers
By introducing features like AC, a touchscreen display, and a sunroof, Omega Seiki is attempting to move electric rickshaws into a more premium segment. If launched at a competitive price, this model could significantly improve comfort for drivers and passengers alike and set a new benchmark for last-mile electric mobility in India.
