A teenager studying in class 8 died while bathing. Breaking down the bathroom door, his family took him to a doctor, where his death was confirmed. Family members said the geyser was off and the child was not experiencing any problems. Heart failure is suspected. The family cremated the child without conducting a post-mortem examination.
Rahul Verma, a resident of Atal Park locality in the Sadar Kotwali area, is a businessman. His 13 and a half year old son, Sarthak Verma, was a class 8 student at Scottish International School. Rahul said that his son went to the bathroom to take a bath on Sunday morning.
About 10 minutes later, his older sister knocked on the door and asked him to come out quickly, but there was no response. She alerted her family. They also called out to Sarthak, but there was no response. Fearing something untoward, the family broke down the door. Sarthak lay unconscious inside.
The family first took him to a private doctor, where Sarthak was declared dead. They then took him to Ayushman Hospital, where the child was also declared dead. Afterward, the family returned home and performed the teenager's last rites without conducting a post-mortem.
Rahul explained that there was a geyser in the bathroom, but it was off when his son went to take a bath. A bucket of hot water was already filled, so he didn't turn it on. In such a situation, death by gas suffocation is unlikely. He suspected that his son may have suffered a sudden heart failure, which led to his death.
Many times the symptoms are ignored: Dr. Pankaj Garg
Senior physician Dr. Pankaj Garg explained that sometimes people open the other nozzle while the geyser is running, which causes the geyser to shut off, but the gas continues to flow. This gas is then inhaled, leading to death.
The geyser was off here, so it's possible that a heart failure occurred. However, certain symptoms are usually felt before this, such as anxiety, dizziness, shortness of breath, chest pain, etc. Children ignore these symptoms, and the situation gets out of hand. The true details would only be revealed after a post-mortem, but the family didn't get one.
