Who cannot get the Ayushman Card—and what can they do instead?

The Ayushman Card is issued under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, which is meant strictly for economically vulnerable families. The government has clearly defined who is eligible and who is not, to ensure benefits reach the poorest sections.

❌ Who is not eligible for the Ayushman Card?

If you fall into any of the categories below, your Ayushman Card cannot be issued:

  1. Organised sector employees

    • Government employees

    • Private employees whose PF is deducted

    • People covered under Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC)

  2. Income tax payers

    • Anyone who files income tax due to higher income

  3. Property owners with stable assets

    • Owners of a pucca house

    • People owning large land holdings

  4. Large or mechanised farmers

    • More than 5 acres of land

    • Ownership of tractors or farming machinery

  5. Higher monthly income

    • Monthly household income above ₹10,000

  6. Vehicle or loan holders

    • Owners of motor vehicles

    • Farmers who have taken crop credit above ₹50,000

👉 Important warning:
If someone who is ineligible obtains an Ayushman Card by giving false information, the government can cancel the card and recover all benefits taken under it.

✅ What are the options for ineligible people?

If you don’t qualify for the Ayushman Card, don’t worry—there are other healthcare options available:

1️⃣ ESIC Medical Benefits

If you’re an organised-sector worker, you’re already covered through Employee State Insurance Corporation, which provides medical care for you and your dependents.

2️⃣ CGHS for Government Employees

Central government staff and pensioners can use Central Government Health Scheme, which offers cashless treatment in empanelled hospitals.

3️⃣ State Health Insurance Schemes

Many states run their own health schemes (like Aarogyasri, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, etc.) with broader eligibility than Ayushman.

4️⃣ Private Health Insurance

If your income is stable, a private health insurance policy can provide wider hospital coverage, faster access, and customizable plans.

5️⃣ Employer-Provided Mediclaim

Many private companies offer group health insurance—check your HR policy details.

📝 Final advice

Before applying, always verify eligibility on the official government portal. Ayushman Bharat is designed only for the most financially distressed citizens, and incorrect applications can create legal and financial trouble later.
