A robbery took place in the German city of Gelsenkirchen that surpassed even the scripts of Hollywood blockbusters. Imagine criminals using drill machines to hack through concrete walls right next to the city's heartland bank, and no one was even aware of it. This wasn't a simple theft, but a meticulously planned surgical strike, executed with complete alacrity. While the entire city was enjoying a weekend holiday, the robbers were making off with hard-earned money, including gold, silver, and cash worth crores, in the bank's basement. This incident not only raised questions about Germany's security system but also shook the public's trust in the bank's iron lockers.
Driller operated on 3000 lockers
The robbers dug a tunnel from the parking garage located next to a Sparkasse bank branch straight to the bank vault and decamped with assets worth around 30 million euros (approximately Rs 270 crore). According to the police, this crime is the work of a professional gang. The miscreants made a hole in the bank wall from the parking garage and entered directly into the underground room where the customers' lockers were kept. The robbers spent the entire weekend inside the bank and broke open more than 3,000 safe deposit boxes one by one. Gold, precious jewellery and huge amount of cash kept in them were looted.
The luxury car theft, captured on CCTV,
came to light early Monday morning when the bank's fire alarm went off. Police arrived at the scene and found a large hole in the vault wall. Eyewitnesses reported seeing suspicious individuals carrying large bags on the parking stairs between Saturday night and Sunday morning. CCTV footage showed a black Audi RS 6 car leaving the garage, driven by masked men. Investigations revealed that the car's license plate had been stolen from the city of Hanover.
