WhatsApp’s New Privacy Feature: Choose Who Sees Your Status Instantly

Ever posted a funny WhatsApp status only to realize your boss or a distant relative saw it? The panic and awkward explanations afterward are all too familiar. Most of the time, we forget that “Everyone” or “My Contacts” is selected in the status privacy settings. But WhatsApp is about to solve this problem once and for all.

Introducing the ‘Audience Selector’ Button

According to the latest reports, WhatsApp is testing a new feature called the ‘Audience Selector’, which works like a privacy button for your status. Currently, to hide a status from specific people, you have to go deep into Settings → Privacy, which is long and tedious. With the new update, a small button will appear while you select a photo or video for your status.

How It Changes Your Status Sharing

  • Instant Control: You can now choose different audiences for each status directly while posting. Want a party photo to be seen only by friends, but a “Good Morning” status for everyone? You can do it instantly—no need to change global settings every time.

  • Privacy Without Hassle: Many users avoid posting statuses due to the hassle of adjusting privacy settings or fear of exposing personal content. This button removes that fear and makes status sharing stress-free.

  • Similar to Instagram: If you’re familiar with Instagram’s “Close Friends” feature, this works in a similar way, giving you full control over who can see what.

When Will It Be Available?

The feature is currently in beta testing and has been spotted in the WhatsApp beta version. After a few weeks of testing, it is expected to roll out to all users, making status sharing safer and more convenient than ever.

With this update, WhatsApp is giving users the power to share freely while keeping their privacy intact—finally a relief for everyone who’s ever hesitated to post a status!
