Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s international journey has begun with plenty of excitement, but the young Indian opener has also discovered that success at the highest level demands quick adjustments. While the 15-year-old has displayed flashes of his explosive talent, one weakness in his batting has become noticeable — his struggle against fast, short-pitched deliveries.
Vaibhav, who created headlines with his fearless batting in the IPL 2026 season, earned his place in India’s T20 squad for the England series after huge expectations from fans. Although he became one of the youngest players to make an international debut, his first few innings have not produced the big score many were hoping for.
A promising start, but a costly mistake
In the third T20 match in Nottingham, Vaibhav once again showed his attacking mindset by smashing two sixes early in his innings. However, his aggressive approach became his downfall when England pacer Jofra Archer delivered a sharp short ball.
The delivery, travelling at around 145 kmph, forced Vaibhav into attempting a hook shot. The timing was not perfect, and he was caught by the wicketkeeper. The dismissal highlighted an important lesson for the young batter.
IPL success cannot always be repeated overseas
During the IPL, Vaibhav dominated bowlers with his fearless stroke play. Indian pitches often provide good batting conditions, where the ball comes nicely onto the bat and allows aggressive shots.
However, conditions in countries like England, South Africa, and New Zealand are different. Extra bounce and pace make short deliveries much more dangerous, and trying to attack every bouncer can put a batter at risk.
Learning when to attack and when to defend
For Vaibhav to become a successful long-term international player, he will need to develop better judgment against bouncers. Sometimes the best option is simply to duck under the ball and wait for scoring opportunities.
Since bowlers are limited in the number of bouncers they can bowl in an over, avoiding these deliveries can help batters stay at the crease longer and attack the easier balls.
Vaibhav’s talent is undeniable, but adapting to different conditions will be the key to turning his natural aggression into consistent international success. His England tour may have given him an early challenge, but it could also become an important learning experience for the future.
