UPS Jeevan Setu is a mobile application-based facility introduced to simplify the annual life certificate process for pensioners covered under the Unified Pension Scheme.
Earlier, pensioners often had to depend on physical visits or other submission arrangements to complete this requirement. The new facility allows eligible users to generate their Digital Life Certificate through Aadhaar authentication and face verification.
The service is available through the NPS by Protean eGov mobile application.
How to Submit Your UPS Digital Life Certificate Using a Smartphone
Eligible pensioners can follow these steps to generate their certificate:

Open the NPS, UPS and APY mobile application.
-
Select "UPS Jeevan Setu – Digital Life Certificate" from the home screen.
-
Enter your Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) and date of birth.
-
Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number.

Select Aadhaar as the authentication method and enter your Aadhaar number.
-
Choose "Continue with Aadhaar" and complete the authentication process.
-
Select the face authentication option.
-
Complete the face verification using your smartphone.
-
Once authentication is successful, the Digital Life Certificate will be generated.
-
Check the confirmation message and select "Done" to complete the process.
The generated certificate will be validated through Aadhaar-based authentication.
Who Needs to Submit the Certificate?
The newly introduced facility is specifically intended for pensioners covered under the Unified Pension Scheme.
PFRDA has directed the concerned Principal Accounts Offices, Pay and Accounts Offices and Drawing and Disbursing Officers of the Central Government to spread awareness about the facility and ensure that eligible pensioners complete the process within the prescribed timeline.
Pensioners should ensure that their PRAN, date of birth, Aadhaar details and registered mobile number are available and correct before starting the process.
What Happens If You Miss the November 30 Deadline?
Submitting the Digital Life Certificate is an important annual requirement for UPS pensioners. According to PFRDA's circular, eligible pensioners must complete the submission by November 30 to ensure uninterrupted continuation of their monthly assured payouts.
Therefore, pensioners should avoid waiting until the last day. After completing the process, they should retain the confirmation details and check with their concerned pension authority if they face any difficulty or do not receive confirmation.
Why Is This New Facility Important?
The introduction of UPS Jeevan Setu is another step towards making pension administration more convenient through digital technology.
Aadhaar-based face authentication can reduce paperwork and the need for physical visits, particularly for elderly pensioners and those who find travelling difficult.
With the November 30 deadline approaching, eligible UPS pensioners should check the new facility and complete their annual Digital Life Certificate submission on time.
The official circular is available on the PFRDA website under its recent updates section.
