The free HPV vaccination campaign has begun, with 14-year-old girls receiving the vaccine for free starting today. Learn the full process

The HPV vaccine campaign began in India today. PM Modi launched the vaccination program from Ajmer. This is a powerful initiative to prevent serious diseases like cervical cancer.

PM Modi today launched a nationwide HPV vaccination program for 14-year-old girls from Ajmer. This campaign is not just a vaccination program, but a strong initiative to protect future generations from the serious disease of cervical cancer  . Thousands of women in India are affected by cervical cancer every year. The main cause of this disease is the human papillomavirus (HPV), which often enters the body without causing any symptoms. Fortunately, prevention against this virus is now possible, and that too through free vaccination.

Why was the age of 14 chosen?

According to the World Health Organization's 2022 recommendations, the HPV vaccine provides the greatest benefit if administered before exposure to the virus. By age 14, the body's immune response develops stronger, providing longer-lasting protection. According to the WHO, in many cases, a single dose can provide adequate protection, and two doses have been shown to be as effective. However, for children with weakened immune systems, doctors may recommend two or three doses.

Where and how will the vaccine be administered?

The government has ensured that vaccination is available at various government health institutions across the country:

  • Ayushman Health Temple
  • Community Health Centre (CHC)
  • District Hospital
  • Government Medical College

At each vaccination center, vaccinations will be conducted under the supervision of trained medical officers, ensuring that the entire process is safe and orderly.
