Temple Priest and Woman in Heated Clash Over Cart Placement

A disturbing incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon near a temple in Rewa, where a heated dispute between the temple priest Choubey and a woman running a roadside cart escalated into a physical altercation. The viral video clearly shows the priest using abusive language and physically attacking the woman, who, in self-defense, pushes him away. Bystanders intervened to separate them and calm the situation, asking why there was such a public disturbance near the temple.

Locals allege the conflict started because the priest objected to the woman setting up her cart right in front of the temple, claiming it caused congestion and litter. The woman, however, asserted that she had been operating there for years without complaints. Ongoing tensions from this disagreement exploded into violence on Tuesday.

Although the incident has come to the attention of police, no official complaint has been filed at the Amhiya police station yet. Authorities have begun a preliminary inquiry upon seeing the viral video and plan to record statements from both parties.

The video’s circulation has sparked widespread public debate, with many criticizing the priest’s conduct, saying, “How can those entrusted with religious duties behave like this?” Others argue that public brawls shouldn’t happen regardless of the dispute.
