TA and children's education allowance expected to increase, 8th Pay Commission may take a major decision; learn the details

8th Pay Commission: Regarding the 8th Pay Commission, the PSNM has demanded an increase in children's education allowance and transport allowance. Employees are expected to receive significant relief from this.

8th Pay Commission Latest Update: The buzz surrounding the 8th Pay Commission is steadily increasing. Meetings are underway in various cities. After the meeting in Dehradun on April 24th, discussions are now set to continue in Delhi as well.

Meanwhile, several employee organizations are presenting their demands to the Commission. Among these, the Progressive Teachers' Justice Forum (PSNM), which represents central government teachers, has also submitted its demands to the Commission. Among these demands, among many others, are increases in TA and children's education allowances. Let's explore this topic.  

Demand raised for increase in education allowances

  • PSNM has demanded that the Child Education Allowance be increased from the current ₹2,812.59 per month to ₹7,000 per month so that employees can more easily afford their children's education.
  • This allowance is available for children's education up to grade 12. The organization wants it extended to graduation.
  • There is also a demand for a digital support allowance of ₹2,000 per month (for needs such as broadband and AI), which has not been included in any pay commission so far.

Demand for increase in transport allowance

  • The employees' union wants the government to increase the transport allowance to 12–15 percent of the basic salary, or at least set it at ₹9,000 plus DA.
  • Currently, this allowance is available at different levels in the range of Rs 1800, Rs 3600 and Rs 7200. There is a demand for an increase.

Suggestion to extend holidays

  • The organization has demanded to increase casual leave to 14 days in a year, 30 days of earned leave and 20 days of medical leave.
  • It has also been proposed to increase the limit of earned leave encashment at the time of retirement from 300 days to 400 days.
