The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has once again reaffirmed its policy of not allowing Indian cricketers to stay with their wives, fiancées, or other family members during international tournaments. Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, reports indicate that the Indian team management requested permission for players’ families to accompany them, but the board firmly denied the request. Under current BCCI rules, players on tours longer than 45 days can stay with their families for a maximum of only 14 days.
According to sources, while players cannot have their families stay with them in team accommodations, they are free to make separate arrangements if they wish. The decision applies to the 2026 T20 World Cup, where Team India will play three group stage matches at home and one in Colombo. The policy mirrors past guidelines, including those issued after India’s 2025 tour of Australia.
The restriction is not unprecedented. During the COVID-19 pandemic, players were allowed to have their families on tours, but some reportedly began using this to skip team meetings or practice sessions. Following complaints from other team members, the BCCI decided to revert to its stricter policy, ensuring that players remain focused and team operations are not disrupted.
