Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is looking to strengthen its position in the competitive commuter bike segment with the launch of the new Shine 100 DX. The bike is expected to challenge well-established models, especially the Hero Splendor Plus, which has long dominated this category. Here’s a detailed comparison to help you decide which model offers better value in the Indian market.
Design Comparison
The Hero Splendor Plus continues with its signature design language, but Hero keeps refreshing the motorcycle through updated paint schemes and subtle styling changes. The bike maintains its slim profile and features a chrome-finished 3D logo along with a Splendor+ badge. It is available in five colours: Sports Red Black, Black Red Purple, Force Silver, Black Heavy Grey, and Blue Black.
The Honda Shine 100 DX, on the other hand, features a prominent chrome headlamp integrated into a plastic housing. It also comes with a muscular fuel tank that flows smoothly into a single-piece seat, giving the bike a more substantial presence.
Features
The Splendor Plus comes equipped with an analog instrument cluster as standard. Buyers looking for more features can opt for the Splendor Plus XTEC variant, which includes a digital display with Bluetooth connectivity, SMS alerts, a mileage indicator, and more.
In comparison, the Shine 100 DX offers a fully digital LCD instrument cluster. This unit displays real-time mileage, distance-to-empty, a digital clock, and other essential information.
Hardware Setup
Both motorcycles come with telescopic front forks and five-step adjustable twin-shock absorbers at the rear. Braking is handled by drum brakes on both ends, and both models use tubeless tyres. The only difference is wheel size: the Shine is equipped with 17-inch wheels, while the Splendor runs on 18-inch wheels.
Engine and Performance
The Hero Splendor Plus uses a tubular double cradle frame and is powered by a 97.2cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 7.9 hp at 8,000 rpm and 8.05 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm.
The Shine 100 DX is built on a diamond-type frame and features a 98.98cc single-cylinder engine that generates 7 hp at 7,500 rpm and 8.04 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. It uses a four-speed gearbox with a multi-plate wet clutch and offers both kick-start and self-start options.
