Senior Patna High Court Advocate Found Dead; Investigation Underway

PATNA — A sense of shock has gripped the legal community in Bihar’s capital following the discovery of the half-burnt body of Indira Laxmi, a senior lawyer at the Patna High Court. Her body was recovered on Wednesday from her residence located on Rajendra Nagar Road No. 2, within the jurisdiction of the Kadam Kuan police station.

Details of the Incident

Indira Laxmi, 60, was a prominent legal professional who practiced at both the Patna High Court and the Civil Court. Preliminary reports indicate that the victim lived alone in her Patna residence, while her husband is based in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The discovery of her charred remains inside her home has sparked a high-level investigation into the cause of death.

Police Action and Forensic Probe

Upon being alerted, a team from the Kadam Kuan police station secured the premises and took custody of the body. To ensure a thorough investigation, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was summoned to the scene to collect biological and chemical evidence.

While the police have sent the remains for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, authorities are currently treating the case as suspicious. Investigators are exploring two primary angles:

  1. Accidental Fire: Whether the burning was the result of a domestic accident.

  2. Foul Play: Whether the lawyer was a victim of a targeted crime, given that she lived alone.

Local Impact

The incident has caused a stir in the Rajendra Nagar area and among her colleagues in the legal fraternity. Local police officials stated that they are waiting for the forensic and post-mortem reports to clarify whether this is a case of suicide, accident, or homicide.
