The government has issued a new alert regarding cyber fraud. Until now, scammers have been attempting to steal OTPs and bank details from users' phones. They've sent users links using various methods. But now, scammers are taking things a step further and using a new method to defraud users and steal their information. The government has issued a warning and urged citizens across the country to be vigilant.
CyberDostI4C shared an X post.
I4C, the cyber security wing of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has issued a warning to the public through CyberDost. Ignoring SMS messages on your phone can lead to serious problems and result in significant losses. Therefore, it is advised to monitor every message alert you receive on your phone.
CyberDostI4C stated on its official X account that the government has implemented a new system to teach scammers a lesson and increase citizen security. If call forwarding is activated on your number, you are immediately notified via SMS. The government has taken this important decision to curb the rapidly increasing cyber fraud.
Ignoring this message could be costly.
Cyber Dost notes that if call forwarding is activated on your mobile number, an SMS alert is immediately sent to the registered mobile number. If you haven't applied for call forwarding activation, it's important to disable this feature immediately.
To disable call forwarding, you need to go to your phone's dial pad and dial ##002#. Once you dial this number, call forwarding will stop immediately. The government has also advised people not to dial the call forwarding code on their mobile number without verification. If you do so, incoming calls to your mobile number will be forwarded to another number.
Don't do this even by mistake.
Cybercriminals can call your number and ask for an OTP, which is then sent to their number via call forwarding. Once the OTP is received, your bank account could be emptied. They can also compromise your digital identity. Therefore, you should always keep an eye out for SMS alerts about call forwarding. So, don't ignore any messages and be vigilant.
