The Delhi Chief Minister's official residence is undergoing a major electrical overhaul. CM Rekha Gupta, who was recently allotted two government bungalows on Raj Niwas Marg, is set to have her primary residence—Bungalow No. 1—fitted with high-end amenities and electronic appliances. The Public Works Department (PWD) has floated a tender worth Rs 60 lakh exclusively for this purpose.
As per the tender documents, Bungalow No. 1 will soon feature 5 television sets at an estimated cost of Rs 9.3 lakh and 14 air conditioners valued at Rs 7.7 lakh. The property will also be secured with 14 CCTV cameras, budgeted at Rs 5.74 lakh, and a UPS system worth Rs 2 lakh.
A particularly notable addition is the installation of 23 remote-controlled ceiling fans, which will cost around Rs 1.8 lakh in total. The bungalow will also include premium kitchen and home appliances: an OTG (Oven Toast Grill) for Rs 85,000, an automatic washing machine for Rs 77,000, a dishwasher for Rs 60,000, a gas stove worth Rs 63,000, a microwave costing Rs 32,000, and 6 geysers estimated at Rs 91,000.
In terms of lighting, the PWD has planned to install 115 different types of lamps, wall lighters, hanging lights, and three large chandeliers—all totaling over Rs 6 lakh.
The tender for this renovation project is scheduled to open on July 4, and the work is to be completed within 60 days. Currently, CM Rekha Gupta is residing in her personal residence in Shalimar Bagh.
The BJP government had earlier clarified that Rekha Gupta would not use the former CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence at 6 Flag Staff Road. After 100 days in office, she was allotted Bungalow No. 1 and No. 2 on Raj Niwas Marg, Civil Lines—Type 7 category government accommodation. While Bungalow No. 1 will serve as her official residence, Bungalow No. 2 will be used as her camp office. Interestingly, this bungalow was previously being used as the secretariat of the Lieutenant Governor.
The scale of upgrades suggests the government’s intent to equip the Chief Minister’s official quarters with modern and functional infrastructure. However, the significant expenditure on amenities might also spark political conversation in the days to come.
