Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor is leaving no stone unturned in preparing for his role in the upcoming epic film Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. As anticipation builds around what is being billed as India’s most expensive film, Kapoor has revealed that he drew inspiration from Ramanand Sagar’s iconic 1987 television series Ramayana to shape his portrayal of Lord Ram.
Drawing from a Timeless Classic
Speaking at a promotional event in the United States, where select audiences were shown a teaser of the film, Kapoor shared insights into his preparation process. He said watching the original television adaptation helped him understand the depth and essence of the character. The series, featuring Arun Govil as Lord Ram, continues to hold a revered place in Indian popular culture.
Commitment to Authenticity
Kapoor emphasized his dedication to portraying the role with sincerity and integrity. Reflecting on his approach, he cited a traditional philosophical line that underscores the importance of righteousness, stating that his goal was to perform his role with complete honesty and truthfulness.
A Grand Cinematic Vision
Produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana is being developed as a two-part cinematic spectacle. The first installment is scheduled for release during Diwali 2026, while the second part is expected to hit theatres on Diwali 2027.
The film boasts a star-studded cast, with Sai Pallavi playing Sita and Yash portraying Ravana. Other prominent actors, including Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Lara Dutta, Kajal Aggarwal, and Raghav Juyal, are also part of the project.
Massive Budget and Scale
With a reported budget of ₹4,000 crore for both parts combined, Ramayana is set to become the most expensive film ever produced in India. The makers aim to deliver a visually grand and emotionally compelling retelling of the ancient epic.
Teaser Release on Hanuman Jayanti
The makers are expected to unveil the film’s teaser on April 2, coinciding with Hanuman Jayanti. Reports suggest the teaser will run for over two and a half minutes, offering audiences their first glimpse into the масштаб of the project.
