Rahul Gandhi’s Convoy Stopped in Rae Bareli as BJP Workers Stage Protest

Rae Bareli witnessed high drama during Rahul Gandhi’s two-day visit to his Lok Sabha constituency, when BJP workers led by Minister of State Dinesh Pratap Singh blocked his convoy and raised slogans demanding that he “go back.” The protest led to a brief clash between BJP supporters and the police.

Convoy Stopped on National Highway
The incident occurred near Mahavir Degree College in Harchandpur police station area, where Singh and hundreds of his supporters sat on the Lucknow–Prayagraj National Highway. Shouting slogans of “Rahul Gandhi go back”, they staged a sit-in protest, forcing Rahul Gandhi’s convoy to halt for a few minutes. Police faced difficulties while clearing the dharna.

Minister Demands Apology
Speaking to reporters, Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh alleged that Rahul Gandhi failed to condemn derogatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother. He added, “Rahul Gandhi should have expressed sorrow and taken strict action. His silence shows support for such people. We demand that he apologize to the mothers of the country.”

Rahul’s Counter-Slogan
Despite the disruption, Rahul Gandhi proceeded to Bachhrawan, where he was welcomed by Congress workers, and later addressed party officials and booth-level workers at Batohi Resort in Harchandpur assembly constituency.
In his speech, Rahul Gandhi attacked the BJP, saying, “Today, we have only one slogan – ‘Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod.’ This has been proven across the country, and we will continue to prove it in the future as well.”
