Chrome Users Should Know These 5 Hidden Tricks: They Can Make Browsing Much Easier

Google Chrome is one of the most widely used browsers on smartphones, but many users still use only its basic features. Several built-in tools can help you organise dozens of tabs, find an old webpage quickly, protect private browsing sessions and make everyday browsing more convenient.

Here are five useful Chrome tricks worth trying on your Android phone.

1. Group Your Tabs to Keep Chrome Organised

If you regularly open many tabs, finding the right webpage can become frustrating.

Chrome lets you create tab groups. Open the tab switcher, then drag one tab over another to create a group. You can then add related webpages to the same group.

For example, you can create separate groups for shopping, work, travel or entertainment. Chrome can also sync tab-group changes across devices signed into the same Google Account.

2. Search Through Your Open Tabs

Don't remember where you opened a particular webpage?

Instead of manually checking every tab, open Chrome's tab switcher and use the search option to find a tab by its name or related text.

Chrome can also search through recently closed tabs and tabs from other devices when applicable.

3. Lock Your Incognito Tabs

Many people assume Incognito automatically hides everything as soon as they leave Chrome, but open Incognito tabs can still be accessed by someone using the unlocked phone.

Chrome provides an option to lock Incognito tabs when you leave the browser. Go to:

Chrome → Settings → Privacy and security → Lock Incognito tabs when you leave Chrome

After this is enabled, biometric authentication can be required before those tabs can be viewed again.

4. Open a Link Directly in Incognito

If you don't want a webpage to become part of your normal browsing session, you don't necessarily need to copy its address and open Incognito separately.

Simply press and hold a link and choose the option to open it in a new Incognito window. This can be particularly convenient when using a shared device or when you don't want the browsing session saved to your regular Chrome history.

However, Incognito doesn't make you completely anonymous online. Websites, internet providers and other services may still be able to collect information about your activity.

5. Quickly Close Multiple Tabs Together

If your Chrome browser is filled with old tabs, you don't have to close them one by one.

Open the tab switcher, select multiple tabs and then use the close option. Chrome also allows users to group, move or share multiple selected tabs at once.

One Small Change Can Make Chrome Much Easier to Use

These features don't require another browser or a separate application. They are already built into Chrome and can make a noticeable difference if you frequently browse the web on your phone.

If your browser is usually filled with dozens of tabs, start by using tab groups and the tab-search function. And if you regularly use Incognito mode, enabling the lock option can add an extra layer of privacy on your device.
